"Back to School" School
Administrative Procedure
In order for a student who has dropped out of school to re-enter the public school system in Garrett County, the following conditions must be completed to fulfill the "Back to School" School (BSS) requirements:
1. The
parent/guardian of the student who wishes to re-enroll must
contact the high school in the appropriate attendance district
by the end of July, or at the end of
first semester at a high
school with a four period day schedule, to officially enroll the
student in the BSS;
2. The
parent/guardian must accompany the student for one hour of the
first day of BSS for the application/orientation process;
3. The
parent/guardian and student must commit to the expectations of
the BSS in order to be enrolled in the program;
4. The parent/guardian must attend an exit conference at the end of
the last day of the program;
5. The
parent/guardian and student must attend a re-enrollment
conference to be scheduled with the school's counselor prior to
the beginning of the school year or the
second semester at a
school with a four period day schedule.
It should be noted that a student who has reached the age of eighteen and no longer lives at home does not need to involve his/her parent/guardian in this process. The building administrator will have the discretion to waive parent involvement in the program if an extreme hardship in the family occurs.
