REFERRAL, DISMISSAL, AND ADMISSION OF STUDENTS TO AND FROM NON-SCHOOL AGENCIES

Administrative Procedure

It has been generally understood that the Garrett County Board of Education shares a responsibility for school children with parents and guardians. Recognizing the need to maintain a consistent procedure to do this, and also considering the responsibilities of both parents and schools in serving the best interests of students, the following guidelines will be followed by the schools in Garrett County:

  1. In accordance with the county policy on attendance, schools will:

    1. Inform individuals, students, and parents of appropriate community services
      2. available.
    2. Accept written parent requests to release students from school.
    3. Cooperate with Board-approved health and social programs in the schools.
    4. Accept, as any other doctor's note, absence excuses from the Garrett County
      5. Health Department or any hospital.

  2. Schools will not:

    1. Dismiss students from school supervision without written parent
      2. authorization, except in valid cases of emergency.
    2. Establish medical appointments for students, except those requiring emergency
      3. medical attention, without written parent authorization.
    3. Encourage, advise, or counsel students to knowingly circumvent these
      4. guidelines.
