Technology is not an end in itself but a means for
getting to some other end. For youngsters who attend
Tech Camp '07, the
"end" will be machines they build using highly specialized sets of LEGO robotics
engineering materials, bringing the machines to life through computer control. Through the
curriculum of Tech Camp, students learn basic control and programming structures using
the LOGO programming language, components of multimedia project production, and publishing
on the World Wide Web. Once machines are built and function correctly, they may be used to
explore various math and science concepts. Working through this building and presentation
process will empower students with the confidence to use technological tools for whatever
"ends" they choose to pursue.
| Robotics |
Complete innovative, engaging projects to build, control, and operate machines using LEGO Dacta materials and PCs. Projects involve math, science, robotics, computer programming and applications, and machine design. |
|
Camera! Action! |
Create multimedia presentations to document student successes as LEGO Dacta robotic engineers-in-training! Skills with digital cameras, videotape, and photo editing and presentation software develop as student directors collaborate to create a digital record of the week. |
WorldWide Web |
Access the Internet to do research into other Dacta projects and schools, post Tech Camp projects, communicate with parents and friends, and find resources to include in multimedia presentations. |
| Accommodations |
The scenic Wisp Resort, located on Deep Creek Lake at the foot of Marsh Mountain in McHenry, Maryland, hosts the week. The resort provides all student accommodations for meals, lodging, and workspace. Daily physical activities include team sports, swimming, hiking, and field trips. |
